…your information source for living safely in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico!
Thank you for visiting San Miguel Security, a community website run by volunteers who care about you! This is our first year and eventually we plan to have the website in both Spanish and English. Please feel free to contact us with your suggestions and feedback.
On this site, you can find out how to make an official report to the police (Seguridad Pública) and to the attorney general’s office (Ministerio Público), if you are a victim of a crime. If you want help resolving a crime, you MUST promptly file a report with Seguridad Pública and with Ministerio Público!
Preventing crime begins with understanding Mexican federal, state and local laws, and we have a section where you can know your rights. If you are an foreigner, don’t assume that the rules are the same in Mexico as in your home country. There are important differences, including how laws are enforced. The more you know, the easier your life will be and the faster you’ll get help when you need it.
On this site you also will find articles about San Miguel, whether you are a visitor, or a part-time or full-time resident. All of the emergency numbers you’ll ever need are posted here—why not put them into your cell phone right now! And you’ll find links to community resources from locksmiths to personal security services, domestic violence prevention programs, and more.
While it’s true that each of us is responsible for our own safety and security, and that of our families, statistics clearly show that less crime occurs when neighbors watch out for each other, and when crimes are consistently reported to the proper authorities. That’s why we want to share information with each other about what is happening around us. Currently we have a monitored website where victims of crime can report their experience found under Report a Crime. To view crime reports click here to go our sister website where crimes posted are posted on a weekly basis.
We hope you will actively participate in keeping your community safe, and that you will be a frequent visitor to the San Miguel Security website.
P.S. You probably know that San Miguel de Allende is safe compared to much of Mexico, and even compared to many cities in the U.S. and Canada. (View comparative crime statistics here.)
